This exciting tour takes rivals the more talked about Northern circuit heads on! This tour takes you through the less traveled part of the Safari experience available in Tanzania, but don’t let that faze you as here, you will witness something unique, and be able to talk about things those who have been to the Northern circuit can’t! It includes a visit to Mkomazi National park which falls into Mkomazi-Tsavo Ecosystem, which is the second largest transboundary ecosystem in East Africa After the famous one, Serengeti- Mara Ecosystem. This continues on to explore the coastal region of Tanga and Bagamoyo, places rich in history & culture of its people, and the green and fertile landscapes of the Usambara Mountains before we head off to Julius Nyerere National Park (previously known as Selous Nationational Park) in the southern part of Tanzania.

Day 1: Pick up, JRO Airport
Following your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by a Tanzanian Velo Adventures representative who will transfer you to Chanya lodge https://chanyalodge.co.tz/ where you will be staying overnight.

Day 2: Marangu Waterfalls
After breakfast and a short briefing from your guide, you will jump into your jeep and drive up to Marangu which is approximately 1600M above sea level. Upon arrival, we will take a 20 minutes hike to Ndoro waterfall passing through plenty of banana and coffee plantations which gives this walk a flowery smell.
The waterfall provides a great opportunity to swim and cool off. Be warned though, the water is VERY cold!
Thereafter we will jump into the jeep and go for the starting point of Mount Kilimanjaro through Marangu Route. In the afternoon you will be transferred to Mkomazi National Park Bandaz for full board accommodation.

Day 3: Mkomazi National Park, full day game drive
Today you will have full day game drive at Mkomazi National Park.
Set below the verdant slopes of the spectacular Usambara and Pare Eastern Arc Mountain ranges and overseen by iconic snow – capped peak of Kilimanjaro, Mkomazi a virgin breathtaking beauty exhibiting unique natural treasures and immense sense of space. Mkomazi is vital refuge for two highly endangered species, the charismatic black rhino and sociable African wild dog, both of which were successfully reintroduced in the 1990s. Nomadic by nature, wild dog might be seen almost anywhere in the park, but black rhino are restricted to a fenced sanctuary, ensuring their safe keeping for future generations enjoyment and prosperity.
Mkomazi supports several dry – country specialists’ species that are rare elsewhere in Tanzania; these include the spectacular fringe – eared Oryx, with its long back – sweeping horns, and the handsome spiral – horned lesser kudu. Oddest of all is the gerenuk, a gazelle distinguished by its slender neck, bizarre alien – like head, and habit of standing tall on its hind legs stretch for acacia leaves that other browsers cannot reach. In the evening you will be driven out of the park for dinner and accommodation.

Day 4: Usambara Mountain, Lushoto
Welcome to the green and fertile Usambara Mountains, where you can experience all facets of African rural life and enjoy the marvellous views over the area. After a long day, you will have dinner and rest for the day.

Day 5: Usambara Mountain, Lushoto
Whilst here today, you can choose to do the following in and around Usambara Mountains:
Visits to superb viewpoints on the edge of the Mountains
A visit to several development projects in the district (soil conservation, irrigation, cross breeding, afforestation, health care)
A climb to Kwa Mongo, the mountain home to a vast number of beautiful butterflies
walks through dense natural forests and along small rivers that race downhill
A view into the history and daily life of the Wasambaa farmers
Visit a traditional pottery village.
Irente View Point Visit which is the most famous viewpoint in the Usambara Mountains is just an hour’s walk from Lushoto. From this viewpoint, you see the village of Mazinde almost 1,000 meters below you. On the way back you pass the village of Irente juu, where you will visit the crossbreeding and soil conservation projects at Mr Mwindadi’s hamlet. The trip can be extended with visits to a nearby waterfall and the viewpoints of Kambe and Kwa Mkeke. Thereafter back at the lodge for lunch and relax.

Day 6: East Usambara Mountain
After breakfast, you will have a nice tour of the tea plantations and the Mazumbai forest. In this pristine forest, you will have a short walk and have a chance to see huge trees, wildflowers and the black and white Columbus monkey. You will also visit Tea plantations and Macadamia farms. Thereafter visit Bumbuli with its beautiful scenery and then proceed to Soni waterfalls for a swimming and picnic lunch. Then go back to the lodge in the late afternoon to relax and enjoy the nice and chill atmosphere than dinner and overnight stay

Day 7: East Usambara to Magoroto Forest
In the morning you will leave Usambara and be transferred to Magoroto forest at Muheza Village. Magoroto with its tropical rainforest is the perfect spot for a getaway and outdoor camping. The estate is located at an altitude of 850m above sea level where temperatures are pleasant all year long. The estate offers stunning views from the Muheza Valley to the Indian Ocean. Enjoy the lush rainforest with rare plants and bird species, explore the dense tropical forest with organic spices or have a picnic or swim in the beautiful lake.

Day 8: Magoroto Forest Activities.
After a delicious breakfast, you will decide on which activities you want to do. You can decide to hike in the dense forest before the sun comes out, bike around the beautiful lake, fish on the lake, swim, go on a boat ride, chameleon hunting, horse riding and many more activities of your choice. In the evening you will have dinner and thereafter you can have games such as darts, pool table or decide to watch the African Television (bonfire)

Day 9: Magoroto Forest to Pangani
In the morning after breakfast, you will leave Magoroto to Pangani at Mike’s beach. This day can be tailored to suit your interests. If you can drag yourself away from your beautiful private chalet and the beach, then there are various water-based activities available which include snorkelling, windsurfing and fishing. Sea kayaks can be used to explore the nearby mangrove creek, a good place to spot kingfishers and a host of other bird life. For those interested, Pangani itself is steeped in history and well worth a visit. After a long day, you will have a very delicious dinner and overnight stay at the beach.

Day 10: Pangani to Saadani National Park
After an early morning after breakfast, you will be driven to Saadani National Park for an evening game drive. What to see in Saadani National Park. In Saadani National Park You will spot animals like giraffe, buffalo, warthog, waterbuck, reedbuck, hartebeest, wildebeest, red duiker, greater kudu, eland, antelope, yellow baboon and vervet monkey, lion, leopard, spotted hyena etc. In the evening you will have dinner and an overnight stay at the Bandaz which is located along the beach.

Day 11: Saadani National Park, full-day game drive
Today you will have a full-day game drive at this beautiful National Park. You are likely to spot animals like black-backed jackal hippos, crocodiles, elephants, Colobus monkeys Warthogs, zebra, porcupines, Bushbucks, green turtles breed, bats, Humpback whales and dolphins and some birds like riverine birds like mangrove kingfisher, lesser flamingo, kingfishers, and fish eagles.

Day 12: Saadani National Park to Bagamoyo
After breakfast, you’ll be driven to Bagamoyo. In this historical town of Bagamoyo, you will be enlightened about how and where slaves and the slave trade were conducted in East Africa. You will also be educated about the colonial error by visiting Old Boma which was the First German East Africa State House in East Africa, Old Fort, Kaole Ruins, Catholic Museum, Crocodile Farm, Old Port in East Africa, get the history of Caravanserai, The First Cross erected by the Missionary on the coast of East Africa, Dr Livingstone’s Church, the fish market and many others places if time permits.

Day 13: Bagamoyo to Nyerere National Park
After breakfast, you will be picked up from the Lodge and depart to Nyerere National Park. Boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River brings you into close contact with hippos, crocodiles and fantastic birdlife. Animals make their way to the river to drink and boats may approach elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes, waterbuck and other game on the river banks within a few meters. Crocodiles glide into the water as your boat approaches and hippo appear in frightening proximity, grunting and blowing steam.

Day 14: Nyerere National Park, Full Day Game Drive
You will have a full day in the Selous Game Reserve exploration of the Reserve by 4×4 wheel drive vehicle; will permit you to have good photographic opportunities and the chance to explore different sections of the vast park. The Selous Game Reserve is the largest in Africa, covering 54,600 square kilometres. Selous is famous for its elephants, commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, monkeys, zebras and greater kudus. It was originally set aside as a hunting area where animals are abundant but shyer than the Northern Parks.

Day 15: Drop off, DAR Airport
This will be the last day of our adventurous Safari. We will leave Bagamoyo and drive to Dar es Salaam International Airport. We will say goodbye to the crew and wish you a safe journey back home
