15 day Yoga, Cycling and Wildlife Safari

Cycling and Yoga combined are one of life’s perfect matches.  But we’ve gone one better. We’ve combined cycling with a yoga safari in Tanzania.

With this in our minds, we collaborate with Chantihom Yoga & Personal Training to bring you this once-in-a-lifetime yoga safari experience to take you where mind and body meet.

We’ve designed this yoga safari package to let you explore at your own pace in soul searching mode. Each of our destinations is chosen to offer a tranquil environment after a day exploring.

Your day will start and finish with Yoga sessions  in the magnificent outdoor settings around Mount Kilimanjaro. Our expert local guides lead the cycling adventures.    Whilst our amazing partner Chanti shares her expertise in structured yoga and meditation sessions.  As part of our pledge to develop the skills of local Tanzanians, Chanti is training to our local staff.  

Our yoga safari trips can also be tailor-made to suit your requirements, whether you are a family, couple, solo traveller or group of friends.   We fully support the level of cycling and yoga you want with our custom retreats and adventures.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Moshi, Tanzania – Jambo!

Welcome to Tanzania! – A land full of magic.

Riding Distance: 0-36km – it’s up to you! 

Accommodation: Chanya Lodge 

Included meals: Dinner 

Today we prepare for the adventure ahead.  At 12pm we meet for a briefing and a bike set up. 

 After that,  you  can take a walk to acquaint yourself with the lively town of Moshi. Alternatively, why not take the chance to get a feel for the terrain and go for a spin with our very own local cycling club. 

Our Custom Cycling – Yoga Safaris can include: 

  • Accommodation: a carefully selected Lodge, Hotel, Campsite, countryside house for homestay or other suitable accommodation depending on the location

  • Private chef: in house chef/cook for the duration of the retreat

  • Meals: all food for the duration of the retreat with an emphasis on fresh, local produce

  • Wine: wine with dinner for the duration of the retreat

  • Local dinner out: dinner out at local favourite restaurant with wine

  • Bike hire: Standard Gravel or mountain bike depending on location

  • Cycling Guide: professional and knowledgeable local cycling guide

  • Support: support vehicle and mechanical support on cycling days

  • Nutrition: ride nutrition on cycling days

  • Yoga Teacher: fully qualified yoga teacher for daily yoga, or as required

  • Massage: fully qualified masseuse for post ride massages

  • Transfers: all transfers for the duration of the retreat including airport pick up and drop offs

Day 2: MATERUNI WATERFALL              

Riding Distance:28km

Accommodation: Chanya Lodge  

You start the day at 7am with a wonderful Yoga lesson followed by a continental breakfast.  Then enjoy some free time in the pool area or  join an optional meditation lesson.

After lunch then we’ll set off riding from Moshi town and make our way up to Uru, which is approximately 1,600m above sea level for a coffee tour and a dip at Materuni waterfall.

A 45-minute hike through a scenic rainforest path takes us to the waterfall.  Watch out for the flower of love and forgiveness in case you need it! Enjoy a swim and a cool off, followed by an incredible yoga lesson in this spiritual location. 

At the end of this busy day, return to the lodge and relax with drinks and delicious food.

Day 3: Moshi to West Kilimanjaro. 

Riding Distance: 45km 

Accommodation: Osiligilai Maasai Lodge 

The day begins with a yoga lesson at 7am.   We drive to the start of our ride on the southern side of Mount Kilimanjaro, passing through the fertile Chagga land with their abundant home gardens. As we ride to the west, the landscape transitions to the arid open plains and acacia woodlands of the Maasai land.  In the middle of the Maasai steppe lies the Osiligilai Maasai Lodge, a locally owned luxury camp with breath taking views.  

Upon arrival we relax with a peaceful meditation.  After this, feeling refreshed enjoy a good dinner of the local Maasai cuisine and look at the starlit sky above Mount Kilimanjaro. 

Day 4: West Kilimanjaro Maasai Cultural experience. 

Riding / Walking distance: 5-20Km 

Accommodation: Osiligilai Maasai Lodge

The day begins at 7am with a special yoga session while enjoying the stunning views of the plains below. Next up  a walking safari led by our Maasai hosts, who will share their knowledge of medicinal plants and the natural environment. 

When you return you can join a yoga session in the lodge and relax by the pool. Our day ends with a beautiful dinner and an evening of dancing with our Maasai friends. 

Day 5: Bike to Arusha.                       

Riding Distance: 45km
Accommodation: Meru View Lodge 

The day starts with yoga in the clear air of the Maasai steppe.

After breakfast, you will say goodbye to the lodge and start your cycling tour to Arusha via Arusha National Park. 

Some aspects of today’s ride might be challenging, but we have included them to enable you to get the most out of this adventure. If we’re lucky, we’ll spot herds of elephants as we ride through the Ngasurai open plains, which is a migratory path for them to and from the Amboseli National Park in Kenya.

We’ll start off-road on dusty tracks before riding in Arusha National Park with armed rangers, and then finishing on tarmac roads taking us to Arusha city. 

Upon arrival at Meru View Lodge, a wonderful relaxing meditation awaits you. 

Finally enjoy your dinner after a challenging and inspiring day. 

Day 6: Tarangire National Park

Riding Distance: 0km 

Driving distance: 115km
Accommodation: Osupuko Tented Lodge 

Today is our transition day which will take approximately 3 to 3.5 hours driving after an early breakfast. You will drive from Meru View Lodge to Tarangire NationalPark for a full day game drive. Tarangire National Park is spectacular in any season and many of the migratory wildlife species can be found at the permanent waters of Tarangire River. Huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, elands and giraffes gather until the onset of the rain, when they migrate again to good grazing areas.  

On arrival at Osupuko Tented Lodge you’ll enjoy a yoga session as the sun sets. Spending the night at the Osupuko with its swimming pool gives us all, a chance to relax and unwind. 

Day 7: Tarangire National Park.         

Riding Distance: 5-15km 

Accommodation: Osupuko tented Lodge 

Begin the day by stretching your body with a great yoga session and time at the pool.  After a well-prepared breakfast, you will depart for a nice village walk and /or ride. This walk will give on opportunity to learn on how local people live. You will participate in a cooking lesson.

In the evening we’ll cycle around the village before returning to the for dinner.  

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater            

Riding Distance: 0km 

Driving distance: 90km
Accommodation: Oldeani Mountain Lodge  

We start our day with a peaceful meditation at sunrise.

We then head off to the Ngorongoro crater floor. In the crater you are also likely to see lions, rhinos, hippos, elephants, hyenas and many members of the antelope family, and small mammals of all sorts. You will have a full day game drive in the park with picnic lunch. After a long day in the crater, you will be driven to the lodge for rest, dinner and overnight stay. 

Day 9: Ngorongoro Conservation area to Moshi. 

Riding Distance: 0km 

Driving distance: 115km
Accommodation: Chanya Lodge 

Today is a transition day as we shift our attention from African wildlife Safari experience to a Beach chill experience on the Indian Ocean. 

Our day begins with a yoga session and breakfast. Afterwards we drive to Moshi  and back to Chanya Lodge where you can relax at the pool and a enjoy a yoga session before dinner 

Day 10: Moshi to Pangani              

Riding Distance: 70km 

Drivingdistance:300km 

Accommodation: Kijongo Bay Beach Resort 

We travel by Jeep to Muheza and find a good spot for us to have our lunch. After lunch, if you are feeling energetic we will get on our bikes and ride to Pangani – Ushongo beach. This ride is challenging in part as some of the roads are sandy but offers an off the beaten track adventure.

Relax on arrival with a yoga session and paddle in the blue waters of the Indian Ocean.

Day 11: Pangani                              

Riding Distance: 5-10 km 

Accommodation: Kijongo Bay Beach Resort 

 The day begins with yoga by the beach.

After breakfast, we take a walking tour at an old Pangani town, the birthplace of the Tanzanian sisal industry and ancient Swahili trade-post, with a history of exporting slaves and ivory. This is a relaxed day of meandering on our bikes, visiting the local people and participating in community activities. 

Day 12: Pangani River Cruise

Accommodation: Kijongo Bay Beach Resort 

We wake to yoga by the beach with the sound of the waves.

Today we will take a boat trip up the Pangani River an age-old transport route between the coast and inland. The water from the Pangani River originates from Mount Kilimanjaro. Explore the mangrove forest palm trees on the shore as well as the varied fauna and flora. 

Finish the day with yoga and meditation.

Day 13: Pangani                                   

Riding Distance: 0km

The day begins with yoga on the beach.

Today we go on an ocean safari and discover the amazing diversity of underwater life while snorkelling around the beautiful reefs of Maziwe Island. When you’ve had enough, relax under the shade we’ve set up, and enjoy a picnic lunch or refreshment. Swim, snorkel or just lay back and listen to the ocean. There is something for everyone. 

Enjoy a yoga session by the waves, and watch the stars over the ocean.

Day 14: Pangani to Moshi                      

Travel back to Moshi – Chanya lodge.

Our last Yoga session followed by an evening parting party. A glass of champagne or two to celebrate the end of what we hope has been a unique experience for you, one to remember for a lifetime! 

Day 15: Departure                                    

After your breakfast and with our pleasure and thanks, we will ensure that you make it to Kilimanjaro International Airport on time for your international flight. Until we meet again!
